 CLASSROOM PROCEDURE

Read your chapter BEFORE class. We will discuss and work through the chapter together as a group during class. I expect students to participate in class discussion when appropriate.

End of chapter case problems are assigned as homework. The instructor may give some class time to work on homework assignments, but it will be necessary to complete many of the assignments outside of class. Homework assignments must be turned in at the beginning of the class period on the due date. NO LATE HOMEWORK IS ACCEPTED WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE INSTRUCTOR.

QuickBooks 2005 is loaded on some of the computers in the Computer Resource Center. Check with a lab assistant to locate a computer with the Quickbooks® software and for open lab hours. If you have a later version of QuickBooks at home, you may elect to complete homework at home. Be aware that if you begin a homework problem in a newer version, you must complete the work in that newer version. For example, you cannot begin an assignment in QB 2006 and then finish the problem in QB 2005. You can, however, begin an assignment in in an older version of QB and complete it in QB 2005.

 EVALUATION

  1. During the course the student will take four exams. The tests will consist of a software performance section and a written section. The tests will be announced at least one week before the test date. Units tested are:

                Test 1............................................................ Chapters 2 – 5
                Test 2............................................................ Chapters 6 – 8
                Test 3............................................................ Chapters 9 – 10
                Test 4............................................................ Chapters 11 - 12

If you miss a test, the test may be made up on Make-Up Day (at the end of the semester). The instructor will schedule and announce Make-Up Day at least 2 weeks in advance. If you miss Make-Up Day, you will receive a zero (0) for any tests to be made up. If you miss the final, you will receive a zero (0) for the final exam score.

  1. A comprehensive problem will be assigned that will serve as the final exam. This examination problem will count as 10% of your final grade.
  2. Homework credit will be given for each chapter. If a student fails to submit an assignment, a zero is recorded. No score will be dropped.
  3. Weights:

                Tests............................................................. 60% of final grade
                Homework....................................................30% of final grade
Comprehensive Final Problem...............10% of final grade

  1. The grading scale for Computerized Accounting is as follows:

                93 – 100                      A
                85 – 92                        B
                75 – 84                        C
                65 – 74                        D

ATTENDANCE

You are expected to be punctual and attend every class meeting. Absences will be recorded. Excessive absences will be reported and may affect financial aid. If it is necessary to miss a class, it is your responsibility to determine what material was covered and what will be expected prior to the next class meeting. Any work keyed on the computer during the missed class must be on your pen drive before the next class meeting. If you miss a scheduled test, you may make up the test at the end of the semester. I set aside an afternoon (announced in advance) for all make-up exams for my classes. If you fail to make-up the test on the scheduled make-up date, you will receive a zero for that exam.

I maintain this web site with posted assignments, due dates, and announcements.  You may access the site through the NPCC home page (www.npcc.edu), click on Staff, Faculty Homepages, and follow the link to the Linda Stanley web site.

AUDIT POLICY

Students auditing a course will be wait-listed until the first day of class and then will be registered on a space-available basis. Students auditing a course pay all tuition and fees associated with the course. Since no grade is assigned for this audit (visitor) status, it will not transfer to another college or university, it will not qualify a student for Pell Grand or Veteran’s benefits, and it will not be listed on the college’s transcript or count toward full-time status. A registered student may change from audit status to a grade status only during the specified period of late registration. Once instruction begins, no student may change from a grade basis to an audit status.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Students requiring special services or equipment should speak with the instructor about the individual need within the first two days of the semester.

 MSDN ACADEMIC ALLIANCE

Software through the MSDN Academic Alliance is available to all Business Division students. You may download various Microsoft applications such as operating systems, Access, and Visio to a CD or you may purchase the software on a CD from Microsoft for approximately $10. If you choose to download files, preferably to a designated computer in the Computer Center, you will then burn the files to a CD that you furnish.

To receive rights to this software, send an e-mail from your NPCC e-mail account to msdn@npcc.edu after the eleventh day of the semester. E-mails from accounts other than a NPCC account will not be accepted. You will have this option until approximately the fifth week of the semester.
